My Emirati bathing suit. Compared to the others, I was basically naked here!
If you are ever visiting the UAE, a trip over the border into Oman is a must--however prepare for at least 3 hours at the border. Muscat is a port city bustling with activity. The souk is a chaotic Arabic tradition filled with spices and incense and fabrics not found anywhere else.
However, the drive outside of Muscat is even more spectacular with Wadis (dry riverbeds that fill during periods of rainfall) along the way. I was on a mission to find Wadi Shab as I had read about it prior to leaving the US. It didn't disappoint--it was filled with caves to explore and cliffs to jump from.
The local boys are the only ones jumping though and as I watched from the other side I knew I could do it. I was clapping and yelling for them when they started serenading me with Gangnam Style, "Hey, Sexy Lady."
They thought I was joking when I asked if I could jump. Until they watched me swim across the wadi, climb the cliff, and stand at the edge with them.
All I needed was a prompt from one of the kids, "No girl jump."
When I emerged from under the water, the cheers and yells filled the valley.
